"Once upon a time, there was a simpler world, where good and evil were never confused and no sacrifice for the common good was thought too extreme." The 1940's may not have really been that way, but we believe that's the way it was. One thing that last September 11th did was make Americans sit back, look at our priorities, and in the process, become more patriotic. Although Swingtime Canteen was written about the World Ware II era, it is ever so timely today.

In December 1941, the United States joined the war that spanned the world. While millions of men and women took up the call to arms, he entertainment industry tried to keep up morale. Bette Davis and John Garfield formed the Hollywood Canteen. Performers went overseas with the USO to put on shows for the military. Radio shows were broadcast from Army and Navy bases. this is the inspiration for Swingtime Canteen.

This has been a wonderful cast. They have so much talent and work really hard on the tough music. They have been a joy to work with and a joy to hear sing. I remember my parents listening to this music. This is great music! The tight harmonies, the swing music, the big band sound so indicative of the 1940's really touches us today. This show makes me want to strike up the band and dance. I hope it brings you joy.
