Directors Corner
As a player in the Southwest Playhouse over the last three years. I found the acting to be, in various amounts, fun, hard work, frustrating, and gratifying. My first attemtp at directing has had the same effects, just in different amounts.
My perception is that directing can be compared to painting. The stage is a blank canvas, the script is a brush. the players are the paint and the story and characters provide inspiration. The director is the artist and must bring together all the components; set. props, light, script, music, and actors on the stage to make an appealing picture. In this medium however, add three-dimensional animation and the unpredictability of live theatre and you get the director's interpretation of art. The result can be just another picture or it can be a masterpiece. I leave that determination to you, the audience
I have never been accused of being artistic, but I have given my best attempt at art with Crossing Delancey. The wonderful cast and support from the SWPH has made this a not so difficult task. To those who direct here regularly and produce the masterpieces we have come to expect, I have only the deepest respect. Theirs is a love for the arts, and that is the spice of life.
I thank you for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy Crossing Delancey as much as the cast and I have enjoyed producing it for you.
