HISTORY

In 1965, four Clinton residents organized the CLINTON LITTLE THEATRE.

The first production in April of 1966 was "ALL MY SONS" and was performed in the High School Auditorium. There were two productions a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The organizers of what then became Southwest Playhouse, FAC, Inc. proposed to: "stir the minds, please the senses, and incite the spirits of the community".

In 1975, renovations began to make a theatre of the old stock show arena at 6th and Nowahy. Other grants and funds were provided by the City of Clinton, the Oklahoma Arts and Humanities Council, A Bicentennial Grant, In-Kind contributions, and Local Businesses.

By 1977, Southwest Playhouse had a facility complete with Green Room, Costume and Scene Shop, Dressing Rooms and a Light Booth. But the purpose remains the same: To involve the people of Western Oklahoma in Live Theatre. Southwest Playhouse now presents five productions a Season with five to seven performances of each, and we are able to seat 200 patrons for each performance.

Our audience comes from all over western Oklahoma, as do our casts.

We do "involve the people of Western Oklahoma in Live Theatre"!
