The first show Southwest
Playhouse's season will be Sanders Family Christmas. Sanders
Family Christmas by Connie Ray and Alan Bailey is the sequel
to Smoke on the Mountain. The musical is being directed
by Chris Crabtree. The
Sanders family returns to Mt. Pleasant, NC, home of the Mt. Pleasant
Pickle Factory. It's Christmas Eve 1941, just after Pearl
Harbor. Reverend Oglethorpe has invited them to the Baptist
church to sing and to witness, getting the congregation into the
down-home holiday spirit before the boys, including one of the Sanders'
own, are shipped off to World Ware II. Will Dennis go to war?
Will Denise witness again? Will Uncle Stanley go to Hollywood?
Will June find true love with Paster Oglethorpe? This
musical is rich with gospel music and traditional Christmas songs.
The cast includes Terry
Brooks as Burl Sander; Karen Stamper as Vera Sanders;Mark Lantz
as Stanley Sanders; Sam Jennings as Dennis Sanders; Charity Brooks
as Denise Sanders; Lori Veazey as June Sanders; Brent Evans as Mervin
Oglethorpe; and Linda Brooks as Sister Linda on piano... Along
with some songs written for the show, some favorite Christmas songs
include "Away in a Manger," "Go Tell it on the Mountain,"
"Jingle Bells," and several Christmas Carol medleys. Also
a medley of great 1940's war songs is part of the show. The
music is a comination of gospel, Christmas, and 40's music.
Sander's Family Christmas runs
November 14 through 16 and 20-22.
